Register your details with Smart Traveller – http://www.smartraveller.gov.au. This is so that they can contact you in case of an emergency, such as a natural disaster, civil disturbance or a family issue back home.
We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance for any holiday you book. Our insurance will cover you from the day it is issued, so you will be comfortable knowing your money paid is safe if something were to happen and you can no longer travel.
Obey the laws of the country you’re visiting even if these seem harsh or unfair by Australian standards. Don’t expect to be treated differently from the locals just because you’re Australian, also remember that if it isn’t acceptable in Australia, it isn’t likely to be acceptable at your destination!
Make copies of your passport details, insurance policy, and visas. Carry one copy in a separate place to the originals and leave a copy with someone at home. It is also good to leave a copy of your travel plans with someone at home.
Ensure you are up to date with all vaccinations before you trip – if you’re unsure please contact your GP for more information. They can also help you with any medications you may need to take with you.
A valid passport with at least 6 months validity is required for your travel arrangements. Please ensure all names are given as they appear on the passport.
Try to pack lightly. Just because your airline may allow 23kg or 30kg doesn’t mean you need to take that much! Only take what you can carry on your own.
